Your bill is your business.
Hospital bills can contain sensitive medical and financial details. We use that information to run your check, keep the result available to you, and create a letter only if you choose to buy one.
The short version
We do not sell bill data, run advertising trackers, or use an uploaded bill to market other products to you.
What the service handles
Information you provide
When you run a check, ScrubMyBill stores the uploaded file, the line items read from it, the hospital and insurer you select, and the findings produced by the comparison.
If you create an account or request an email, we also store the email address and account details you provide. Payment card information is entered on Stripe’s checkout page and is not stored by ScrubMyBill.
How it is used
Your information is used to read the bill, compare its codes with public hospital price files, show the result, save it to a household when requested, prevent abuse, and prepare or unlock a purchased letter.
The production bill reader sends the uploaded document to our document-reading provider for extraction. Storage, email, and payment providers receive only the information they need to perform their part of the service.
Access and cookies
Without an account, a random, HttpOnly browser cookie is the key to your checks. Someone using another browser cannot open them from the URL alone. If you create an account, checks from that browser are saved to your household so you can reach them after signing in elsewhere.
ScrubMyBill uses these functional cookies for access and security. It does not currently use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Retention and deletion
The current service does not automatically delete uploaded files on a fixed schedule. Clearing a browser cookie removes that browser’s access but does not delete the stored check.
To request deletion or ask a privacy question, email [email protected]. We may need to verify control of the account or the browser access tied to a check before deleting it.
